Introduction

This glossary provides definitions of key terms used in civil procedure in England and Wales under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR).

Key Terms

CPR — the Civil Procedure Rules, the procedural code governing civil litigation in England and Wales.

Statement of case — the formal written documents setting out each party’s case, formerly known as pleadings.

Disclosure — the process by which parties reveal the existence of relevant documents to each other.

Summary judgment — a procedure enabling the court to decide a case without a full trial where there is no real prospect of success.

Interim remedy — a temporary order made before the final determination of the case, such as an injunction.
