Japan&amp;rsquo;s approach combines legislation, government guidelines, and industry self-regulation.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The &lt;strong&gt;Act on the Protection of Personal Information&lt;/strong&gt; (Law No. 57 of 2003 — &lt;strong&gt;APPI&lt;/strong&gt;) is Japan&amp;rsquo;s primary data protection law.
