Democracy and Governance

This category provides democracy and governance profiles of countries worldwide, based on the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) dataset (v16). Each article presents key indicators measuring a country’s performance on electoral democracy, liberal democracy, rule of law, judicial independence, civil liberties, accountability, and corruption. The data is produced by the V-Dem Institute at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and is available under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license. Coverage includes 179 countries with annual data from 1789 to 2025.
